Elastic OpenTelemetry

Elastic OpenTelemetry is an open-source ecosystem of OpenTelemetry distributions tailored to Elastic. They include a customized OpenTelemetry Collector and several OpenTelemetry Language SDKs.

EDOT-Distributions

Each Elastic OpenTelemetry distribution is assembled with selected OpenTelemetry components and tested to ensure production readiness. This gives you a reliable, optimized OpenTelemetry experience backed by Elastic support.

OpenTelemetry is a vendor-neutral observability framework for collecting, processing, and exporting telemetry data. If you are new to OpenTelemetry, refer to OpenTelemetry concepts and components. Refer to Elastic OpenTelemetry compared to upstream OpenTelemetry for more information on how Elastic OpenTelemetry differs from upstream OpenTelemetry components.

The following Elastic OpenTelemetry distributions are available:

Distribution Latest version Current status
Elastic Agent 9.4.3 GA
Elastic OTel .NET 1.4.0 GA
Elastic OTel Java 1.11.0 GA
Elastic OTel Node.js 1.16.0 GA
Elastic OTel PHP 1.7.0 GA
Elastic OTel Python 1.14.0 GA
Elastic OTel Android 1.7.1 GA
Elastic OTel iOS 2.0.1 GA
EDOT Cloud Forwarder for AWS 1.8.0 GA
EDOT Cloud Forwarder for Azure 1.8.0 Technical Preview

A demo environment that showcases Elastic OpenTelemetry capabilities is available in the opentelemetry-demo repository.

The Elastic OpenTelemetry demo includes:

  • Sample applications instrumented with OpenTelemetry SDKs.
  • Elastic Agent configured for various scenarios. For example, Kubernetes and hosts.
  • Integration with an Elastic Stack deployment, such as Elasticsearch and Kibana.

Follow the instructions in the demo repository to set up and run the demo.
